About

Hi, I’m Yan Guo (郭言), a Chinese teacher (中文老师, zhōngwén lǎoshī) and blogger from Sanming (三明, sānmíng), Fujian (福建, fújiàn). I didn’t become a teacher just to explain grammar (语法, yǔfǎ) or characters (汉字, hànzì). I chose this path because I’ve seen how powerful language (语言, yǔyán) can be in real life. A single sentence can open a door, start a friendship, or give you confidence in a place that once felt unfamiliar. To me, learning Chinese (中文, zhōngwén) is not about perfection, it is about connection.

Chinese Characters Deep Dive (Part 1)- Understanding Radicals, Master the Building Blocks of Chinese Characters for Faster Reading

I understand the struggles that come with learning Chinese. There are moments when tones (声调, shēngdiào) feel frustrating, characters look overwhelming, and progress (进步, jìnbù) seems slow. Many students feel stuck at some point, wondering if they will ever speak naturally. But I have also witnessed something special. There is always a turning point. One day, you suddenly understand a conversation (对话, duìhuà) without translating. You recognize characters on a street sign. You respond without hesitation. These moments may seem small, but they are powerful, and they mean you are moving forward.

My teaching (教学, jiàoxué) focuses on helping you reach those moments faster. I believe Chinese should be learned through real situations (实际情况, shíjì qíngkuàng), not just textbooks (课本, kèběn). Whether you are ordering food, chatting with friends, traveling (旅行, lǚxíng), or working, the language should feel alive and useful. That is why I share practical sentences, everyday vocabulary (词汇, cíhuì), and cultural insights (文化, wénhuà) that you can apply immediately in your life.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy a quiet and curious life. Photography (摄影, shèyǐng) is one of my favorite ways to observe the world. It teaches me to slow down and notice details, which is also how I approach language learning. Traveling (旅行, lǚxíng) allows me to experience different cultures and perspectives, and it reminds me how it feels to be in a new place where everything is unfamiliar. That feeling helps me better understand my students. Swimming (游泳, yóuyǒng) gives me time to relax and clear my mind, while playing ping pong (乒乓球, pīngpāng qiú) adds a bit of energy and fun to my daily routine.

Through this blog, I want to be more than just a teacher. I want to be someone who learns with you, guides you, and encourages you when things feel difficult. Learning Chinese (中文, zhōngwén) is a journey that takes time, patience, and courage. You do not need to be perfect, and you do not need to rush. Every word you learn and every sentence you try brings you one step closer.
